Position Overview.
We are seeking a Financial Controller to join the Amsterdam-based team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing local accounting, financial reporting, and tax compliance. You will ensure that internal and external financial obligations are met while contributing to process improvements and operational efficiency. Key responsibilities:
As a Finance controller you will be focusing on the following tasks:
Monthly Financial and Management Reports
- Oversee and assist the general accounting function, inclusive of processing and maintaining accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and maintaining accounting records including data entry for day-to-day business transactions.
- Provide supervisory oversight for the local finance function in the Netherlands and ensure smooth financial operations.
- Prepare accounting documents and monthly schedules.
- Prepare invoices, handle incoming invoices, prepare reconciliations, initiate funding, and general payments.
- Prepare the monthly group reporting to the head office and assist with reporting to the Board of Directors (BoD) as needed.
- Ensure filing of finance administrative documents, data, workbooks, and internal controls are maintained and optimized.
- Assist in the preparation of reports for external reporting (e.g., monthly/quarterly management reports, statutory annual financial statements).
- Monitor monthly actual results against the budget and prepare an overall review and analysis of variances.
- Perform other accounting/finance-related and office duties or tasks as assigned from time to time.
- Assist in leading process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the finance team.
- Support the assessment of complex accounting matters and projects within the Netherlands.
Internal and External Audits
- Provide documentation and assistance to external auditors and handle matters raised by the auditors.
- Assist in the planning, coordinating, and monitoring of statutory audits.
- Take an active role in improving audit readiness and supporting compliance initiatives.
Annual Budget and Forecasts
- Assist in the budgeting and forecasting in accordance with Group policies.
- Support long-term financial planning and contribute to financial strategy discussions.
Internal Control over Financial Reporting
- Evaluate, improve, and maintain the company's ICFR framework in accordance with Group guidelines.
- Continuously assess and enhance internal financial controls to align with growth and operational needs.
Tax
- Assist in tax compliance.
- Ensure all statutory tax reporting and tax filings (VAT, CIT) are completed on time.
- Contribute to tax optimization and support tax function efficiency improvements.
Asset Management
- Assist the Finance Manager in the standardization or improvement of asset management services across the asset management teams.
- Take the lead in providing analysis, tools, techniques, and insight to enhance the execution of asset management tasks.
The Candidate We Are Looking For:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- 5-7 years of experience in financial control, accounting, auditing, tax, and internal controls.
- Experience in the trust, financial services, or renewable energy industry is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Dutch GAAP, IFRS, and financial reporting standards.
- Familiarity with tax regulations and compliance in the Netherlands.
- Proficiency in financial systems such as Cognos, D365, Power BI, and MS Office.
- Excellent English communication skills; additional languages are a plus.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-changing environment and collaborate across diverse teams.
