Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Dutch finance team. This position is a key role within the department, responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with both IFRS and Dutch GAAP. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will act as a backup for the Finance Manager, supporting broader financial initiatives and contributing to strategic projects such as ERP system transitions and operational platform improvements. The role also requires strong team management and project management experience, with clear examples of success in these areas.
This role reports to the Finance Manager and is part of a wider European finance network, providing opportunities to work on cross-border initiatives and collaborate with various stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical accounting background, combined with team management and project management experience, with proven examples in their CV.
Day-to-Day Financial Accounting.
- Oversee and review third-party property accounting to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Process purchase invoices and maintain the cash book.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and ensure all balance sheet accounts are properly reconciled.
- Conduct intercompany reconciliations and review interest calculation schedules.
- Prepare and post monthly journals, accruals, and prepayments.
Monthly and Year-End Reporting.
- Review and analyze monthly trial balances, identifying key variances.
- Prepare and review annual financial statements in compliance with local GAAP and IFRS.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and legal teams when necessary.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation and review of VAT and CIT returns.
Business Information & Analysis.
- Provide financial insights and communicate key findings on monthly results.
- Support the Finance Manager, Country Managers, and Asset Management teams with ad hoc requests, including financial analysis for transactions, leasing activities, and capital expenditure (capex) projects.
- Additionally, you will support both group-level and local finance teams on various financial matters, including budgeting, reforecasting, and tax-related issues.
Whom we are looking for?
The ideal candidate for the role will have a strong background in financial and management accounting, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A recognized accounting qualification (or completion of professional exams), such as CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or AAT.
- Fluency in both Dutch and English (knowledge of other European languages is a plus).
- Proficiency in MS Office applications and accounting software.
- A structured and highly organized approach, with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- A problem-solving mindset and the ability to use technology to drive efficiencies.
- Prior experience in the real estate sector is a plus but not essential.
