Although I wasn’t a beginner in the field of employment mediation the transition proved to be quite though at first. Despite having previous experience in the industry, I had to rebuild my business engaging with new clients and candidates in a completely different field. It was challenging at first, but I succeeded, and I am proud of that.
The best part of my job is that no day is alike. Recruitment is very diverse. On one hand it has a commercial side; I talk to clients and candidates all day long and often travel for work. On the other hand, I also regularly work on administrative tasks in the office. I like this variety.
Additionally, the work itself also brings me fulfillment. A customer calls you with a problem and you come up with a solution for the problem while overseeing the entire process. It always gives me joy when I am able to mediate a candidate, since it is the direct result of correctly assessing and solving my client’s problem.
In addition, I am also a mother of three young children. Motherhood and work are easy to combine if you’re flexible. For example, whenever I get a call for an assignment late in the afternoon, I will stay at the office to finish up my work, as my husband is able to take care of the children. However, this is a personal preference, as I’d rather work until 7:30 p.m. and finish working before I come home. But when needed I also have the opportunity to work from home and finish working after I put my kids to bed.
I work part-time, every Friday I am free. I do look at my mailbox every now and then and if there is an urgent matter I will answer my phone. However, if I am spending time with my kids at the pool I will leave my phone at home. In the beginning while you’re trying to expand your client portfolio it will require some time and effort. But once you’re established it will get easier to finish all tasks within the office hours. I prefer working in the office as it is motivating and energizing to be around my coworkers. But whenever one of my children is sick or has to attend their swimming practice it’s convenient that working from home is possible at Robert Walters.
