What you'll do as the Compliance Lead within Catawiki:

As Compliance Lead at Catawiki in Amsterdam, you will take ownership of designing forward-thinking compliance strategies that underpin the trustworthiness of one of Europe’s most exciting online marketplaces. Your day-to-day will involve collaborating with passionate experts across departments to embed robust frameworks that protect both users and the business. You’ll be responsible for monitoring regulatory changes globally—especially those impacting e-commerce—and translating these into actionable policies that keep Catawiki ahead of the curve. By developing engaging training sessions and fostering open communication channels about compliance topics, you’ll help nurture an environment where everyone feels empowered to uphold high standards. Your ability to mentor junior team members will be crucial as you guide them through complex legal landscapes while supporting their growth. Whether you’re conducting risk assessments or representing Catawiki before regulators, your work will be integral to maintaining operational excellence while enabling innovation.   • Develop and implement Catawiki’s comprehensive compliance programme, ensuring alignment with evolving laws, regulations, and business objectives across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Monitor regulatory developments closely, proactively analysing potential impacts on operations and advising on necessary adjustments to maintain best-in-class compliance standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify, prioritise, and mitigate compliance risks using creative and practical solutions tailored to Catawiki’s unique business model.
  • Create, review, and enforce policies covering key compliance themes such as product regulatory requirements (including CITES, ivory, diamonds), DSA compliance, consumer protection laws, financial regulations, product safety standards, and internal speak-up mechanisms.
  • Establish effective mechanisms for detecting, reporting, and addressing compliance violations while ensuring timely remediation with minimal disruption to business activities.
  • Design and deliver engaging training programmes that build awareness of compliance policies among employees at all levels and foster a culture of shared responsibility for regulatory adherence.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to management and cross-functional teams by providing clear guidance on complex compliance matters and integrating best practices into daily operations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders throughout the organisation to ensure consistency in compliance messaging, terminology, and processes while identifying opportunities to streamline workflows.
  • Mentor junior counsels within the team by offering coaching and support that empowers them to navigate complex challenges confidently and develop their professional skills.
  • Represent Catawiki during administrative or law enforcement audits, investigations or litigation; build relationships with regulatory agencies; participate in public discourse around legal developments; monitor KPIs; lead audits; report regularly to leadership on risks and initiatives.

Profile

What you bring:

To excel as Compliance Lead at Catawiki in Amsterdam, your background should reflect hands-on experience managing complex regulatory frameworks within fast-evolving sectors like e-commerce or technology platforms.

  • A Master’s degree in Law.
  • At least eight years’ experience in compliance or legal roles, ideally within e-commerce or technology-driven businesses,demonstrates your ability to navigate complex environments.
  • Deep knowledge of relevant regulations including AML, anti-corruption measures, sanctions regimes, DSA requirements, consumer protection laws and product safety standards.
  • Proven track record leading end-to-end compliance programmes across multiple jurisdictions shows your capacity for operational oversight at scale.
  • Ability to approach challenges from a risk-based perspective allows you to identify pragmatic solutions that balance regulatory obligations with commercial priorities.
  • Exceptional communication skills empower you to simplify intricate topics for diverse audiences while influencing stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • A proactive mindset focused on solutions means you are always looking for ways to improve processes while supporting business growth.
  • Fluency in English is essential; additional language skills are highly valued given Catawiki’s international reach.
