Business Controller

Save job

Do you thrive on analysing business performance, partnering with senior stakeholders, and translating financial insights into strategic recommendations? Are you looking for a role where you can make a direct impact on operational and financial performance? Then this opportunity could be the next step in your career.

About the Organisation

Our client is a leading international logistics service provider operating at the heart of one of Europe's most important logistics hubs: Schiphol. The organisation supports a wide range of international customers with highly complex supply chain and logistics solutions.

One of their largest and most strategic clients is Google, resulting in a dynamic environment where operational excellence, scalability, and continuous improvement are critical to success. The organisation combines the pace of a logistics business with the complexity and professionalism of a global technology-driven supply chain.

To support continued growth and further professionalisation, we are looking for a Business Controller who can act as a trusted financial partner to both operations and management.

The Position

As Business Controller, you will serve as the financial sparring partner to the Site Manager and local management team. Reporting directly to the Manager Business Control, you will play a key role in supporting both operational and strategic decision-making.

This is a genuine Business Control role with a strong emphasis on business partnering, performance analysis, forecasting, and driving operational improvements. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, and support informed decision-making.

The operation is driven by a sophisticated charging and settlement model, where multiple operational variables directly influence financial performance. In addition, the organisation is preparing for an important transition within this model, making your analyses and recommendations critical to future business decisions.

While month-end closing activities form part of the role, they are not the primary focus. On average, only a few days each month are dedicated to closing activities, allowing you to spend the majority of your time on value-adding business control activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the financial business partner to the Site Manager and local management team.
  • Prepare, analyse, and present management reports and performance insights.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Monitor operational and financial KPIs and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Translate complex financial and operational data into actionable business insights.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and efficiency improvements.
  • Support business cases, investment proposals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
  • Participate in projects focused on process optimisation and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with finance, operations, and senior stakeholders throughout the organisation.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in a Business Control, Finance Business Partner, or Controlling position.
  • Experience within logistics, supply chain, data centre, technology, or another operational environment is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to challenge and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Professional proficiency in English.
  • Knowledge of Dutch is considered an advantage.

What's on Offer?

  • A challenging and highly visible Business Controller position within an international organisation.
  • Direct exposure to senior management and strategic decision-making.
  • Significant autonomy, ownership, and the opportunity to make a real impact.
  • Hybrid working model (typically 4 days on-site and 1 day working from home).
  • Flexible working week of 32 to 40 hours.
  • Annual salary between €70,000 and €80,000, including holiday allowance, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Performance-related bonus scheme.
  • Attractive pension plan.
  • Extensive opportunities for professional and personal development.
  • The opportunity to work in a technology-driven logistics environment supporting one of the world's leading organisations.
