About the Organisation

Our client is a leading international logistics service provider and a trusted partner to major retailers across Europe. Every day, large volumes of goods are processed, stored, and distributed through a network of strategically located distribution centres.

For their largest and most complex site in Lelystad, we are looking for a Business Controller. This location specialises in the handling and distribution of temperature-controlled products and operates in a fast-paced environment where operational excellence and financial performance go hand in hand.

The site plays a critical role within the wider organisation, making it an exciting environment for finance professionals who enjoy working closely with operations and driving continuous improvement.

The Position

As Business Controller, you will be the financial sparring partner to the Site Manager and local management team. Reporting directly to the Manager Business Control, you will play a key role in supporting both operational and strategic decision-making.

This is a true Business Control position with a strong focus on business partnering, performance analysis, forecasting, and operational support. You will work closely with stakeholders throughout the organisation, providing financial insights that help drive performance and improve decision-making.

The operation works with a sophisticated charging and settlement model, where multiple operational drivers directly impact financial results. In addition, the organisation is preparing for an important transition within this model, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to strategic initiatives and shape future financial processes.

While month-end closing activities form part of the role, they are not the primary focus. On average, only a few days each month are dedicated to closing activities, allowing you to spend the majority of your time supporting the business, analysing performance, and driving improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the financial business partner to the Site Manager and local management team.
• Prepare, analyse, and present management reports and business performance insights.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
• Monitor operational and financial KPIs and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Translate complex financial and operational data into meaningful business insights.
• Identify risks, opportunities, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Support investment decisions and business case development.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
• Participate in strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate closely with finance, operations, and other key stakeholders across the organisation.

Your Profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, or a related field.
• Several years of experience within a Business Control, Finance Business Partner, or Controlling position.
• Experience within logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, retail, or another operational environment is advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into actionable recommendations.
• Proactive, commercially minded, and comfortable challenging stakeholders when necessary.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Fluent in English.
• Knowledge of Dutch and/or Spanish is considered a strong advantage.
