Senior Financial Controller

Your potential employer The European headquarters is located near Rotterdam Central Station and serves as the hub for commercial and trading activities across the region. The organisation operates in multiple countries and forms part of a global group with a presence in over 50 countries.

Your department / team
You will report to the Finance Manager Europe and be part of the wider European finance team. In this position, you will manage the local finance team and supervise the performance of the General Ledger Shared Service Team based in Southeast Asia.

You will work closely with various internal stakeholders and act as a key business partner, supporting financial decision-making and driving process improvements within a dynamic international setting.

Your tasks and responsibilities
In this role, you will ensure accurate and meaningful financial reporting while maintaining compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. Your responsibilities include:

  • Preparing monthly and annual profit & loss statements and balance sheets
  • Producing statutory accounts and supporting the year-end audit process
  • Maintaining the chart of accounts, trial balance, accruals, and fixed asset records
  • Reconciling payroll, clearing accounts, suspense accounts, and intercompany balances
  • Monitoring inventory, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
  • Delivering financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and analyses to management
  • Managing budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Assisting with tax reporting and reviewing transfer pricing documentation
  • Enhancing financial controls and improving accounting policies and procedures
  • Managing and developing the local finance team
  • Overseeing the performance of the shared service centre (GL team)
  • Supporting internal policies and promoting risk awareness

Your knowledge and experience
The ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (HBO level) in financial accounting or a related discipline
  • Solid experience in financial accounting, including closing, reporting, and audits
  • Familiarity with Dutch GAAP and IFRS
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP)
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with reporting tools (e.g. BI/Tableau)
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
