Senior Trade Accountant

You will become part of the Financial Accounting team based in Rotterdam, consisting of four Financial Accountants responsible for the accounting and financial control of the marketing entities in the Netherlands and Belgium, and three Trade Accountants responsible for the accounting and financial control of trading activities across the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland.

Your tasks and responsibilities

As a Sr. Trade Accountant, you will combine accounting expertise with strong financial control capabilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of trading-related financial data, supporting period-end closings, maintaining a robust control environment, and facilitating both internal and external audits.

You will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including Trading, Risk Management, Business Control, Back Office, and Finance teams across Rotterdam, Hamburg, Baar, and Stockholm.

In addition, you will be actively involved in the preparation, review, and audit of statutory financial statements for entities in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg, as well as supporting the annual group audit. As VAROPreem is continuously improving, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to finance transformation and process improvement initiatives.

• Ensure trading results and related financial transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled during monthly, quarterly, and annual closing cycles.
• Maintain a high-quality and audit-ready accounting environment across trading and financial systems.
• Execute and document key controls as part of the Internal Control Framework.
• Prepare and review accounting analyses, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
• Support the preparation of statutory financial statements in accordance with Dutch, Belgian, and Luxembourg GAAP requirements.
• Engage with internal and external auditors and coordinate audit requests efficiently.
• Identify risks, control weaknesses, and opportunities for process improvements within the finance organization.
• Contribute to finance transformation projects, process automation initiatives, and continuous improvement programs.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to ensure financial information accurately reflects commercial activities.

Your knowledge and experience

• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in financial accounting, financial control, or audit.
• Strong hands-on experience with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
• Proven experience supporting external audits and preparing statutory financial statements.
• Solid understanding of IFRS, Dutch GAAP, and Belgian GAAP.
• Knowledge of derivative accounting and commodity trading environments is considered a strong advantage.
• Understanding of complex business models, financial controls, and corporate tax accounting.
• Excellent command of English and Dutch (preferred) written and spoken.
