Credit Analyst
About our client Our client is an established international bank with a corporate banking operation based in Amsterdam. The Dutch office is compact, and pairs a close-knit local team with the balance sheet and reach of a major global institution. The workforce is genuinely international and bicultural, which makes it a strong fit for someone who enjoys operating between two business cultures. The Corporate Banking team is growing, and this Credit Analyst position sits at the centre of that growth.
The role
As Credit Analyst you deliver balanced risk-return analysis on credit structures for the bank's key business relationships. You work closely with the responsible Relationship Manager on high quality credit applications and credit revisions, and you carry independent responsibility for the credit report itself.
You have regular direct client contact within your portfolio and consult in good time with the Relationship Manager, the Credit Risk department and the various specialist teams across the bank. In practice you are the expert voice on professional financing towards large corporate clients.
Larger credit facilities are reviewed together with colleagues at head office in Asia, so you will liaise with those stakeholders directly and present in Mandarin as well as English. This is why Mandarin is a hard requirement for the role.
What you will be doing
- Performing financial analysis for bilateral, club and syndicated lending transactions, with individual ticket sizes of up to USD 150 million
- Conducting peer benchmarking, sensitivity analysis and downside scenario analysis to assess repayment capacity, refinancing risk and resilience under stressed market conditions
- Supporting the structuring, negotiation and execution of bilateral, club and syndicated financing transactions across a range of industries
- Working closely with Relationship Managers, Legal Counsel, external lenders and other stakeholders on structuring, execution and closing
- Preparing credit applications, financial forecasts and internal credit ratings, and presenting credit recommendations to the Credit Committee in both English and Mandarin
- Managing annual credit reviews, periodic portfolio reviews and ongoing credit monitoring for multinational corporate groups with approved global credit limits of USD 200 to 500 million
- Running quarterly portfolio reviews and presenting portfolio risk assessments to the Risk department and senior management, covering key credit developments, emerging risks and mitigation measures
- Monitoring financial covenant compliance and emerging credit risks throughout the life of the facilities
- Supporting client restructurings, waivers and amendment requests through financial analysis and coordination with syndicate lenders, OEMs and shareholders, in line with internal credit policy
- Managing client onboarding and coordinating KYC and AML due diligence with Compliance and Operations to keep transactions on schedule
- Coaching junior colleagues on internal credit policy, underwriting standards and credit rating methodology
Your profile
- 3 to 5 years of experience in complex financial analysis and the preparation of funding applications, ideally within corporate or commercial banking
- HBO+ or WO working and thinking level
- Knowledge of DCM, credit trading and cross border markets, with the ability to get to the heart of complex issues
- Exposure to syndicated, club or bilateral lending and to covenant monitoring
- Strong attention to detail, a critical mindset, and the ability to listen well and ask the right questions
- Self-starting and comfortable taking ownership of your own files
- Fluent in English and Mandarin. Mandarin is essential for credit discussions and committee presentations with head office
- Dutch is an advantage but not a requirement
What is on offer
- Base salary up to EUR 75,000 depending on experience
- 40 hour working week
- 13th month
- Pension scheme
- International training and development
- A visible role in a growing Corporate Banking team, with direct exposure to senior management locally and internationally
- Genuine ownership of your credit files rather than a production line role
