Financial Controller

About the Role Within a fast-growing international software organization, a broad Financial Controller position is available within the Finance function. In this role, you are responsible for the financial administration of one or more entities within a global group structure.

The organization operates in a highly international environment with activities across multiple regions worldwide. Financial operations are supported from a centralized finance function in the Netherlands, where the full accounting cycle for various entities is managed.

You will work closely with the CFO and other finance professionals within a compact and international team. For entities outside the Netherlands, coordination takes place with external local partners supporting statutory, tax, and compliance requirements. The organization is progressively increasing the level of internalization and central control over financial processes within its operating model.

You report directly to the CFO and interact regularly with internal stakeholders and external advisors across different jurisdictions.

ey Responsibilities

End-to-End Financial Administration

• Full responsibility for the accounting and financial administration of assigned entities
• Processing of accounts payable, payment runs, invoicing, collections, and general ledger management
• Preparation and posting of journal entries, accruals, deferred revenue, intercompany transactions, and other required postings
• Execution of monthly close processes, reconciliations, and foreign currency revaluations
• Review of payroll journals in collaboration with HR
• Ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial records in line with internal policies and applicable accounting principles

Financial Reporting & Close

• Ownership of monthly and annual closing processes for assigned entities
• Preparation of management reporting and statutory financial statements in accordance with applicable local accounting frameworks (varies per jurisdiction)
• Contribution to consolidated group reporting and analysis of financial movements
• Coordination of external audit processes and acting as key contact for auditors and advisors
• Maintenance of accounting documentation, reconciliations, and supporting schedules

Compliance & International Operations

• Support of local statutory, tax, and compliance requirements (including VAT / sales tax filings)
• Preparation of mandatory statistical and regulatory filings where required
• Coordination with external accounting firms and advisors across multiple global regions
• Support of cash management and working capital optimization
• Identification of risks and control gaps within financial processes
• Support in intercompany and transfer pricing-related matters

Revenue & Subscription Accounting

• Ensuring correct accounting of subscription-based revenue and revenue recognition
• Management of deferred revenue and contract-related accounting entries
• Support in analysis of key performance indicators within a subscription-based business model
• Acting as finance counterpart to commercial teams on contract and billing matters

Systems & Process Improvement

• Working with multiple financial and ERP systems in an international environment
• Management of finance applications (user access, updates, vendor coordination, and data integrity)
• Contribution to automation and optimization of financial processes
• Participation in implementation and improvement projects for finance systems and tools
• Strengthening internal control frameworks in a growing organization

Budgeting & Planning

• Support of budgeting and forecasting processes (rotational responsibility within the finance team)
• Providing input and analysis to the CFO during planning cycles
• Maintaining planning data in reporting systems
• Performing variance analysis against budget and forecast

Collaboration & Business Support

• Close collaboration within the finance team and with cross-functional stakeholders
• Translation of financial data into clear and actionable insights
• Contribution to efficiency improvements, automation, and risk mitigation initiatives

Profile

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
• 7+ years of relevant experience in accounting or controlling roles
• Experience in multi-entity and international financial environments
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
• Experience with ERP and reporting systems in international settings
• Advanced Excel skills and comfortable working in multi-currency environments

Language Requirements

• English is a must
• Dutch or Afrikaans is a plus

Compensation

• Salary based on a 40-hour work week: €75,000 gross per annum, including holiday allowance
• Travel allowance: €0.23 per kilometer
• Home office allowance: €2.42 per day
