An international commodity trading business is looking for a Senior Accountant to join its growing finance team in the Netherlands.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who wants to work in a fast-moving international trading environment where finance is closely connected to commercial operations, logistics and global supply chains.

The business trades essential agricultural commodities across international markets and operates within a complex network of trading entities, inventory movements, logistics providers and counterparties. As a result, the finance team plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls and timely business insights.

This role offers broad exposure across accounting, reporting, consolidation and business partnering while working closely with Trading, Trade Control, Operations, Logistics and IT teams.

The Role

As Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of the financial accounting activities for the Dutch business while contributing to European group reporting and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process.
• Prepare statutory and management reporting, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and variance analysis.
• Maintain accurate accounting records within SAP and ensure financial data integrity.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations, including intercompany accounts and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare European group consolidation and support group reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with Dutch GAAP, internal policies and external reporting requirements.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules and financial documentation.
• Assist with tax reporting and statutory compliance.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, depreciation and asset registers.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls and reporting efficiency.
• Provide financial analysis and ad hoc reporting to support business decisions.
• Support or supervise junior finance team members and oversee AP, AR and payroll activities where required.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical accounting knowledge with the ability to operate in a commercially driven business. You'll likely have:

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• At least 4 years' experience in accounting or audit (Big Four or similar experience is highly valued).
• Strong knowledge of Dutch GAAP.
• Experience with SAP or another ERP system.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience working within an international organisation.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Professional qualification such as ACCA or equivalent is advantageous.
• Fluent Dutch and English.

Experience that will set you apart

Candidates with experience in commodity trading, international trading houses, agribusiness, energy trading or other high-volume trading environments will be particularly well suited.

The successful candidate will understand (or be excited to learn) the financial complexity of trading businesses, including:
