To support continued growth and ensure strong financial governance, they are looking to appoint a Group Financial Controller to join their Amsterdam-based HQ Finance team. This is an opportunity to work at the heart of an international finance function, partnering with senior stakeholders across Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal and FP&A while overseeing the financial reporting of multiple international holding entities.
Job Overview
As a Group Financial Controller based in Amsterdam, you will be responsible for the financial control, statutory reporting and month-end close activities for a portfolio of international holding companies.
Working closely with Shared Service Centres, external accounting providers and internal Group functions, you will ensure timely, accurate and compliant financial reporting while driving strong financial controls across the organisation.
This role is ideal for an experienced finance professional with a strong technical accounting background who enjoys operating in a multinational environment with complex legal entity structures. The Group Financial Controller will play a key role in supporting corporate transactions, maintaining financial governance and improving reporting processes across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process for a portfolio of international holding companies.
- Review financial information prepared by Shared Service Centres and external accounting partners, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, trial balances and variance (flux) analysis.
- Manage intercompany accounting, reconciliations and cross-charge processes across multiple legal entities.
- Coordinate statutory financial statements, annual audits and local compliance requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of statutory filings and reporting to local authorities.
- Support Group reporting and financial consolidation processes.
- Work within SAP S/4HANA and Group reporting systems to maintain accurate financial data.
- Collaborate with Treasury, Tax, Legal, HR, FP&A and Group Accounting teams across multiple countries.
- Support corporate finance initiatives including mergers, acquisitions, restructures, capital reductions, dividend distributions, refinancing activities and entity liquidations.
- Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes and governance.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, outsourced finance providers and key internal stakeholders.
Who We're Looking For
We're seeking an experienced finance professional who combines strong technical accounting expertise with excellent stakeholder management skills.
Essential
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting or Controlling.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in Financial Control, Group Finance or Corporate Accounting within an international organisation.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and experience preparing or reviewing statutory financial statements.
- Experience managing month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
- Strong understanding of intercompany accounting and multi-entity financial reporting.
- Experience working with outsourced accounting providers or Shared Service Centres.
- Advanced Excel skills and excellent analytical ability.
- Experience with ERP systems, ideally SAP S/4HANA.
- Exposure to Group reporting and financial consolidation processes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced international environment.
- Fluent English.
- Currently based in the Netherlands or eligible to work there.
Desirable
- Knowledge of Dutch GAAP.
- Experience accounting for Dutch holding companies.
- Experience with OneStream or another Group reporting platform.
- Experience working within a multinational matrix organisation.
- Dutch language skills.
- Background in a listed company, multinational corporate environment or Big 4 accounting firm.
